This event is free and open to all.

Join the Contending Modernities research initiative in celebrating the opening of ReDiscovering Convivencia, an exhibition of student work created during and in response to a week-long immersion trip to Granada, Spain. In Granada, students will examine the multi-faith legacies of pluralism and mutual recognition between Muslims, Jews, and Catholics that was a hallmark of the period of convivencia - living together in religious tolerance - in Muslim Spain between 711–1492 CE.

Exploring the nexus of the arts, art history, architecture, history, politics, religious studies, and theology, students learn about this moment of interreligious exchange between Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Their contributions to the exhibition interpret their research, whether an artistic item or architectural site, in order to facilitate audience reflection on how the three faiths are in conversation and how aesthetic traditions can continue to impart pluralism today.

ReDiscovering Convivencia is the result of an interdisciplinary undergraduate course for Notre Dame students led by Keough School of Global Affairs Professors Ebrahim Moosa, Mirza Family Chair of Islamic Thought and Muslim Societies, and Atalia Omer, Professor of Religion, Conflict, and Peace Studies.

The exhibition is free and open to all Tuesday, April 13th and Wednesday, April 14th from 7am - 8pm.
