Heidelbergology: Is It Art Now? is a traveling retrospective of the internationally acclaimed Tyree Guyton. The exhibition explores the groundbreaking @heidelbergproj, created in his Detroit neighborhood beginning in 1986.
Named for the street where Guyton grew up, the project blends community development, assemblage, urban design, and studio practice. It embodies Guyton’s philosophy of Heidelbergology—the study of discarded materials woven into a community’s fabric—and has gained international recognition for its artistic and social impact. For four decades, the project has sparked global conversations on community resilience, creative placemaking, and the intersection of art and activism. By showcasing its evolution, impact, and continued relevance, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to examine how art can address urban challenges, inspire dialogue, and foster healing in communities worldwide.
Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) presents the exhibition alongside robust public programming.
