  • Artists working in collaboration with other artists, individuals, cooperatives, communities, and histories are a vibrant force across the contemporary scene. Although many artists choose to create individually—and romantic notions of the artist laboring in isolation persist—the shared creative endeavor has become more widely acknowledged and embraced.

This expansive and wide-ranging group exhibition, central to the inaugural Notre Dame Arts Biennial, examines the dimensions of contemporary artists working collaboratively toward a greater good. Some of the participants' creations have been produced through integrated partnerships; others are the result of a larger cooperative or communal experience.

Although meaning and message differ, the works selected aim to illuminate critical issues of cultural change, spiritual and historical journeys, social inequities and opportunities, and environmental fragility, among other issues. By casting light through symbiotic practices, these artists have forged paths forward for the greater good. They offer their work for contemplation and, perhaps, action.
